Sarn Valley

Sarn Valley

The Sarn Valley is the breadbasket of the Southern Provinces, a land of farms, steadings, rivers, and old roads that would be peaceful if not for the powers fighting to control it. Past the River Globurn the land opens into the Shivefrost Plains, a pale frontier of wind, crystal dust, and exposed roads on the edge of the Screaming Wastes.

The valley was once held secure by an iron ring of forts built to command its crossings and trade routes. Now those old strongholds are in ruin, and some have been seized by the Palemen, brutal raiders and opportunists. With Sarnath City preoccupied by lockdown and martial law, the Sarnath Army has been stretched thin and trapped in a bitter siege at Globurn Fort, where assault after assault has failed and the deadlock is turning the valley into a war zone.

Dagan Rell

Leader of the Palemen at Shivenmolt Fort, Dagan Rell turned scattered raiders into a force powerful enough to seize the old forts of the Sarn Valley. But as war with the Sarnath Army worsens and his followers grow ever more violent, he knows he is no longer simply leading the thing he built, but is trapped within it.

Osric Dane

A covert operative of the Sarnath Army, Osric Dane works from an abandoned outpost on the Shivefrost Plain, carrying intelligence between General Walter Hale and traitors inside Shivenmolt. While the siege at Globurn Fort grinds on, his hidden war of intrigue within the inner workings of the Palemen may decide which side breaks first.

Keeper Vorrn

High in the hidden places of the Stoutspires, Keeper Vorrn protects one of the Bittun’s oldest and most dangerous secrets: the source of sperenweave, the rare fibre that makes survival in the Shivefrost and Screaming Wastes possible. With the valley sliding into war, she will do whatever she must to keep that secret buried.

Sera

Sera unsettles even the most seasoned raider in Shivenmolt. She speaks like a child and treats poison, sickness, and suffering with a calm far worse than naked cruelty. A Palemen poisoner, whole settlements can panic at the thought that Sera has passed through.

Charna Velbin

At Shivenmolt Fort, Charna moves through the chaos like she owns it. Sharp, magnetic, and impossible to ignore, she survives by making herself useful, desirable, and dangerous all at once. Ruthless and seductive, she has no interest in dying for anyone else’s cause, only in ensuring she lands on the winning side.

The Siege Of Globurn

Where the River Globurn meets the Shivefrost Plain, Globurn Fort was built to anchor Sarnath’s rule over the valley. Now the Palemen hold the crossing, and the fort has become the centre of the region’s conflict.

Assault on Globurn

Again and again, the Sarnath Army has thrown men against the gatehouse of Globurn Fort, only to be driven back by arrows, stones, and fire. What should have been a swift assault has hardened into a bitter and shameful siege against bandits. Every failed attack leaves the walls blackened, turning the fort’s entrance into a graveyard of shattered ladders, broken bodies, and failing morale.

General Walter Hale

General Walter Hale has already sent many soldiers to die at Globurn Fort, and he is willing to send many more if it means taking victory. He is less troubled by the losses than by what failure will mean for his standing with Darion Quince. Now, with direct assaults failing, he has turned to espionage and betrayal to weaken the Palemen from the inside.

Army Encampment

After months of failed assaults, morale is low, and desertions are rising. Some of the missing are believed to have drifted toward the new Fulgury Chapel in Eftwade, where a growing camp of Storm worshippers offers meaning, comfort, and dangerous promises.

Corren rell

Corren Rell has made Globurn Fort a nightmare to assault. Chokepoints, false openings, traps, and carefully prepared killing grounds have made every assault a disaster for the Sarnath Army. Blind, brutal, and tactically gifted, he makes this smallest stretch of stone cost too many lives to take.

Elias Dunbur

The army at Globurn has sent repeated calls for aid to nearby Sarnlock Fort, but Captain Elias Dunbur has given them nothing. Once known for discipline and clear judgement, Dunbur now keeps Sarnlock sealed, while whispers spread that something inside the fort, or inside the captain himself, has changed.

Brackendor Garrison

Brackendor Tower was once considered a soft posting, a quiet tower on the edge of the Gloomwode where soldiers expected boredom more than battle. Now the army at Globurn has sent for aid and received only silence, raising fears that something has gone badly wrong in the forest.

The Palemen

The Palemen rose from the roads of the Shivefrost Plain and turned scattered raiders into a power strong enough to seize forts, choke trade, and threaten the whole Sarn Valley.

The Palemen

The banner of the Palemen bears a crowned skull broken down the middle, a direct insult to the kingdoms of Highwater and the failing rule of King Aleron II

Shivenmolt Fort

Shivenmolt Fort is the beating heart of Palemen power on the plain, an old stronghold now swollen into a lawless camp of raiders, captives, camp followers, and rival subcommanders. More than a fort, it has become a viper’s den of shifting loyalties, private schemes, and violence always close to the surface.

Hagan Bander

Behind the noise of Shivenmolt, Hagen Bander is one of the men who makes the whole place function. From Quince’s Head tavern, he fixes problems, moves coin and information, smooths over disputes, and quietly handles the kind of business more dangerous men are too blunt to manage well.

Maw Hester

In the steading outside the fort walls, Maw Hester feeds, shelters, and mothers the worst of the Palemen, who are no longer permitted within, like they are her own sons. Her farmhouse is one of the ugliest corners of Shivenmolt’s rule, where warmth, food, and sudden violence all come from the same loving hand.

Joran the Grin

Joran the Grin is one of the worst men under the Palemen banner, a laughing sadist who treats terror, pain, and disorder as entertainment. Kept mostly outside the fort with the brutes, captives, and unstable men drawn to him, he has become one of the clearest signs of how badly Shivenmolt is beginning to rot.

Abandoned Outposts

The Shivefrost Plain is scattered with old roadside towers and abandoned watch posts from earlier days of control. Many now stand empty, but some have found new uses as hidden shelters, covert meeting points, and quiet places for deals that are not meant to survive daylight.

The Woolback Road

The Woolback Road is the lifeline of the Shivefrost Plain, carrying trade, prisoners, raiders, and scattered survivors across exposed ground. To control this road is to control movement across, and out of the region.

Elder Karnn

Elder Karnn now speaks for a future many in Kesh Hollow fear: the death of the Speren Queen and the end of the old Bittun way of life built around her brood. As the crisis deepens, more frightened voices are beginning to follow him.

Speren Queen

The Speren Queen is the hidden source of all Sperenweave, the rare fibre that shields against the Shivefrost and makes movement across the eastern frontier possible. Now wounded and failing, she has become the centre of a crisis that reaches far beyond Kesh Hollow.

Kesh Hollow

Kesh Hollow is the hidden mountain home of the Bittun, built in secret around the living source of sperenweave. For generations it has remained one of Tidefall’s best-kept secrets, protecting the rare resinous fibre that makes survival on within the Shivefrost and Screaming Wastes possible.

The Larval Pits

The Larval Pits are where young speren grubs are raised and the first raw fibres of Sperenweave are gathered. Warm, guarded, and essential to the life of Kesh Hollow, they are one of the most closely protected places within the Stoutspires.

The Pathwardens

The Pathwardens guard the secret world of the Bittun, mountain defenders who patrol the hidden approaches and decide who enters the Bittun world and who never reaches it. After a recent attack on Kesh Hollow they no longer act as silent watchers and choose to strike first rather than risk another breach.

The Speren

These pale speren grubs produce the raw fibres that become Sperenweave, one of the only materials able to endure the Shivefrost. Small and easily overlooked, they are among the most valuable creatures in the whole Southern Provinces.
