THE STORM

THE STORM

Those who have seen the storm up close speak of towering waves that shatter ships in moments, spiralling vortexes that swallow fleets whole, and black winds strong enough to scour stone from the cliffs. Within, the sky is fractured with violent, multicoloured lightning, and immense shapes are sometimes glimpsed moving beneath the water or drifting through the clouds. Its presence gnaws at the mind, prolonged exposure can create obsession, fanaticism, and sudden violence. Very few have ever entered the Storm and returned, and none have done so unchanged.

THE STORM WALL

A hellscape of violent seas and screaming winds that isolates Tidefall from the outer world.

Within the Storm

Inside the Storm there is no sky, no horizon, no sense of time. Darkness crushes in from all sides as multicoloured lightning tears through towering clouds, revealing impossible shapes in the air and sea. Winds scream like living things and the longer you remain, the harder it becomes to tell whether the sound is outside, or inside your mind.

Storm Sign

Storm-Sign is the mark left behind by the Storm. It appears as faint lightning deep within the eyes of the Storm Touched, only visible on close inspection. Most never notice it, until strong emotion, violence, or exhaustion causes it to flare.

The Point of No Return

The moment a ship crosses the Storm’s boundary, daylight and reality vanishes. Almost total darkness, screaming winds, and panic takes hold. Order collapses in seconds as sailors turn on each other, hulls break under impossible waves as the sea claims ships whole.

Madness

Nobody enters the storm unchanged, most fall to paranoia, hallucinations, and violent behaviour almost immediately. The madness can take hold within hours or days. In recent years, unexplained outbreaks far from the coast have deepened public panic.

The Storm Boundary

Before the storm wall the seas are eerily calm and skies clear, allowing ships to trade and travel so long as they never drift too close to the roiling darkness beyond.

Blitspar

Some smiths and jewellers note that Blitspar crystals recovered from the sea often behave unlike any others and develop fine fractures that seem to hold, not break.

THE
STORM CULTS

Those that don the blue robes are feared and mistrusted, seen by most as mad, dangerous and avoided at all costs.

The Storm Cults

A sprawling series of disorganized and fanatical groups dedicated to the worship of the storm surrounding the island. They reject the old order and proclaim a coming reckoning, and the beginning of something violent and new. Disorganised but growing, they are a constant destabilising force across Tidefall.

Aelar Stormborne

A fervent Storm Worshipper whose devotion even unsettles allies. He seeks communion with the maelstrom and recruits relentlessly gathering his followers at a growing camp at Stormpoint.

Kiam Cathedral

Rising in glass and stone above Veloria, the newly built Kaim Cathedral offers the cults a polished face. Wealthy, organised, and powerful it stands in stark contrast to the ragged pilgrims who worship in the streets, and in open defiance of the Order of Divinity.

The Storm’s Messengers

Worshippers drift through towns and cities, preaching from street corners and makeshift platforms, warning of coming change as most people hurry past and try not to listen.

Pilgrims

Storm worshippers wander Tidefall as ragged preachers and beggars, giving up comfort and safety to follow the Storm, spreading its message through fear, devotion, and desperation.

Bound for the Cells

Storm pilgrims are often arrested or confined, locked away for their fanaticism, dissent, or to quarantine the violent madness many fear they carry back from the Storm.

Ebstone

Pilgrims, cultists, and the Storm-struck drift here to escape judgement, drawn by proximity to the maelstrom and a population hardened to strangeness. Once a mining region of value, Ebstone is now a neglected frontier where suspicion is constant, authority is distant, and the Storm feels close enough to touch.
